Dear EHPS Community,
True leadership is often best demonstrated when our students inspire one another. This month, I am incredibly proud to see that leadership in action as members of our Educators’ Rising and EHHS Kindness Club facilitate "Think Kindness" assemblies at our elementary schools.
This initiative was sparked when guest speaker Brian Williams visited East Haven and challenged students to see the good, be brave, and be kind. Rather than letting that momentum fade, these students, under the guidance of their advisor, Patricia Robinson, adapted the message for our youngest learners.
By stepping into these mentorship roles, our older students are doing more than just teaching—they are modeling the empathy and character we strive to instill throughout the district. They are proving that kindness is a choice that starts with one person but thrives when shared.
Thank you to our student leaders for reminding us all that we are never too young (or too old) to make a difference.
In partnership,
Adam Swinney, Interim Superintendent

Schools across the district recently celebrated Read Across America Week, bringing students and staff together to promote a love of reading. Through guest readers, themed activities, and classroom celebrations inspired by the work of Dr. Seuss, students enjoyed engaging literacy experiences that highlighted the joy and importance of reading every day.
|
Elementary students from Momauguin and EHA recently showcased their creativity and culinary skills during the district’s Sodexo Future Chefs Competition. Sponsored by Sodexo, the event invited young chefs to design and prepare their own original recipes, giving students a fun opportunity to explore cooking, nutrition, and healthy food choices while sharing their talents with peers, judges and fellow chefs!
Judges ranked student's dishes based on originality, ease of preparation, healthy attributes, kid friendliness, taste, plate presentation and presentation to the judges.
Contestants:
Violetta Garcia-Rivera (2nd Place), EHA Grade 5- Yuly Arepas

Our middle school Unified Sports program continues to create meaningful opportunities for students to connect, compete, and grow together. By bringing students with and without disabilities onto the same teams, our Unified Sports program promotes teamwork, inclusion, and mutual respect.
Through practices and games, our middle school students from JMMS and EHA continue to develop friendships, build confidence, and experience the joy of working toward a common goal. The program not only strengthens athletic skills but also fosters empathy, leadership, and a strong sense of school community. As you can see from the smiles on their faces, the East Haven Unified Sports program has quickly become a highlight for many of our students, offering an experience that celebrates effort, belonging, and the power of inclusion!

March is recognized as Board of Education Appreciation Month, and we extend our sincere gratitude to the members of the East Haven Board of Education for their continued leadership, service, and commitment to our students, staff, and community. Serving on a Board of Education requires countless hours of thoughtful decision-making, collaboration, and dedication to ensuring the success of our schools. Their support of high-quality educational opportunities, innovative programs, and responsible stewardship of district resources helps create a strong foundation for all East Haven Public Schools students. We are deeply appreciative of their ongoing advocacy and leadership in helping our schools remain a place where every student can explore, empower, and achieve.

In this week’s Sports Spotlight, we recognize the dedication and accomplishments of East Haven Co-Op hockey player Nick Perillo, a four-year member of the program representing the East Haven community. Nick has been a key part of the team throughout his high school career. As a freshman, he earned a spot on the first line—an impressive achievement for a young player—and used that opportunity as motivation to keep improving and supporting his teammates.
One of Nick’s proudest moments came last season when the team captured the state championship, a special accomplishment after finishing as state runner-up just two years earlier. Being part of both championship runs helped shape him into the competitor and leader he is today.
Nick’s impact extends beyond the ice. He consistently earns Honor Roll recognition, maintains excellent attendance, and is known by teachers and classmates for always being willing to help others. His work ethic, leadership, and positive attitude make him a valued member of the East Haven hockey community.
Nick would like to thank his coaches, teachers, and teammates for their support throughout his high school journey, and the East Haven community is proud of his accomplishments and looks forward to what he achieves next.

Strong attendance is directly tied to academic success. Please help us by making school attendance a top priority for your child. Missing more than 2 days of school per month places a student in the category of being chronically absent—something we work hard to prevent, since attendance impacts learning at every stage of a child’s education.
-
Preschool: Building strong routines around attendance starts early. Even at age 3, developing the habit of coming to school every day sets the foundation for a child’s future success.
-
Elementary School: Research shows that students who miss more than 2 days per month are at risk of not reading on grade level by the end of grade 3—a key milestone for future achievement.
-
Middle School: Consistent attendance helps students stay connected to their peers, prepared for daily lessons, and ready to take on more rigorous coursework that builds the bridge to high school success.
-
High School: Attendance is directly tied to credit. Missing too many days of school may result in loss of course credit, which can prevent students from staying on track to graduate within four years. Daily attendance is one of the strongest indicators of graduating on time and being prepared for college, career, or the military.
- Let’s partner together to ensure that every child attends school regularly and has the best possible opportunity to achieve.
